General
Arranged alphabetically.
Includes correspondence, papers, and biographical material for Catherine, her mother and grandmother, Sara E. and Otelia DeWitt, and her sisters Sara D. and Caroline (deceased in 1893). Catherine’s papers include biographical information she supplied Vassar College as an alumna, and a letter written by L. Curry, great granddaughter of O. DeWitt’s cousin, to Enid Davis of Harker in early 2002, describing family history.
Catherine’s records also include those of her maternal grandmother, Otelia DeWitt, and her sister Caroline. Otelia may have participated in the operation of the Miss Harker School in her later years, but Caroline had no affiliation with the school, as she took her own life in 1893. These include her grandmother’s Oregon Pioneer Association ribbons, 1901-1909, and her sister Caroline’s obituaries.
Sarah D.’s papers include a 1911 postcard she sent to her grandmother, Otelia DeWitt, several invitations to an afternoon tea in 1953, and a letter written to her by General Douglas MacArthur from Tokyo, July 1948. News clippings are also included, including her 1956 obituary, publication unknown. Sara D.’s papers also contain news clippings about the lawsuit surrounding her contested will.
Sarah E.’s files contain copies of papers naming her as administratrix of her husband’s estate when he died in 1902.
Alice William’s file contains 1971 and 1986 yearbook and school newspaper commemoratives about her years at Harker.
